Big News!

Matt and I are moving in together! We made the decision a long time ago but I didn't want to tell you until it was official. I guess I was afraid I would some how jinks it. But we have signed a lease on the perfect apartment so NOW it is official.

I am so excited and ready to move in with Matt. He is my best friend and just the idea of living with him makes me smile. Now I know it won't be all sunshine and Eskimo kisses but we have been together for over 3 years so I know there will be a lot of sunshine and Eskimo kisses. But for the times that there is not, I'm confident we will work through them.

I'm also going to look to you, my wise and faithful readers who have already crossed this big life phase bridge. What should I expect when living with my boyfriend? Are there rules I don't know about yet? What about peeing when he is in the shower? What about if I reeeeeally have to go? What about alone time and bed time and gassy times? I'm looking to you for help.

Song of the Day
Along with the sunshine and Eskimo kisses, I also know there will also be a lot of The Beatles as it one of the few bands Matt and I agree on.

  1. Well since you asked…
Peeing is OK. But only Peeing.
Alone time will be greatly reduced — but I suspect the reason you are moving in together is to be together more.
    Bed times won’t change.
And I didn’t know girls got gas so you’re on your own there.

Most of it you will figure out as you go. I think you will find that, even though you have been together for three years, you are going to learn a LOT of new things about each other in the first few weeks — from where you put your worn, but mostly clean, clothes to how you fold towels to which way you hang the toilet paper on the roll.

    Good luck.

  2. Everybody knows that toilet paper should be hung with the loose end coming over the top, NOT coming out the back of the roll. EVERYONE.

  3. Congrats!

I just moved in with my partner (SCL in the blogworld) about two months ago, and it has been really awesome despite the initial weirdness and figuring things out as we go. Obviously, we're still new at it! But here are some tips.

    * Figure out your finances. How are you going to pay for things? Are you going to have a joint account? How much are you going to spend on food, fun stuff, etc.? It will help you so much to figure this out ahead of time.
    * Make a space that is yours. SCL has his corner with computer and three (yes, three) monitors that is just his space. I don't touch it and don't annoy him about its state of messinss. I have a big walk in closet that only has my stuff in it. It makes me feel better to know I have a space that I'm totally in control of.
    * Still date. It's easy to fall into just seeing each other when you're both home, but plan to do fun things outside of your place.
    * Living with someone is not the same as having two separate places and one stays over all the time at the other. It's different sharing a space because now it's "ours" rather than "yours" or "mine." This is weird but awesome!
    * I don't think I've ever peed while SCL has been in the shower, but we have fallen into a morning routine that works for us. You'll figure out a rhythm.

Ok, I think that's enough for now. I'm blogging all about our adventures living together, if you want to check out my blog. I look forward to hearing how it goes!
